By Chris Rancourt, PA-C, ATC
At Toledo Clinic Sports Medicine, our goal is simple: help patients recover faster, move better, and return to the activities they love with confidence. As a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) and Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), I bring a unique combination of medical training, orthopedic experience, and sports performance knowledge that allows me to care for athletes and active individuals at every level.
My background in both sports medicine and athletic training gives me the ability to understand injuries not only from a medical standpoint, but also from the perspective of performance, movement, and long-term function. Whether treating competitive athletes, weekend warriors, or patients simply trying to stay active and pain-free, I focus on delivering individualized, evidence-based care.
Comprehensive Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Care
I assist in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. This includes:
- Acute sports injuries
- Shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle injuries
- Sprains, strains, and fractures
- Tendonitis and overuse injuries
- Concussion evaluation and management
- Arthritis and chronic joint pain
- Osteoporosis evaluation and management
- Post-operative orthopedic care
- Injury prevention and return-to-play planning
By combining clinical evaluation with imaging interpretation, rehabilitation planning, and patient education, I help patients understand both the source of their pain and the best path toward recovery.
Osteoporosis Care and Bone Health
In addition to sports medicine and orthopedic injury care, I also help patients address osteoporosis and overall bone health. Osteoporosis is a common condition that weakens bones and increases the risk of fractures, especially in older adults and postmenopausal women. Early identification and treatment are critical to maintaining mobility, independence, and long-term quality of life.
I work with patients to assess fracture risk, review bone density testing, and develop individualized treatment plans focused on improving bone strength and reducing future injury risk. This may include:
- Education on nutrition and calcium/vitamin D intake
- Exercise and fall-prevention strategies
- Lifestyle modification counseling
- Coordination of bone density screening
- Medication management and monitoring
- Ongoing follow-up to track progress and treatment response
Because musculoskeletal health is closely tied to bone strength, osteoporosis management fits naturally within a comprehensive orthopedic and sports medicine practice. My goal is to help patients remain active, safe, and independent through proactive bone health care.
Patient-Centered Approach
One of the most important services I bring to the practice is accessibility and communication. Patients benefit from timely evaluations, continuity of care, and a provider who takes the time to listen and explain treatment options clearly.
Every patient’s goals are different. Some want to return to competitive athletics, while others simply want to walk without pain or stay active with their families. I believe successful treatment begins with understanding those goals and building a personalized plan around them.
Commitment to the Toledo Community
Being part of the Toledo community allows me to work with local athletes, schools, families, and active individuals who trust us with their care. I take pride in helping patients recover from injuries and maintain active lifestyles through compassionate, high-quality sports medicine care.
At Toledo Clinic Sports Medicine, I am proud to contribute a combination of orthopedic expertise, sports medicine knowledge, osteoporosis management, and patient-focused care that supports our mission of keeping the community healthy, active, and performing at its best.
